The following 8 Day Via Dinarica trekking holiday across Bosnia and Herzegovina, is extremely diverse itinerary offering anyone with medium and advanced fitness to fully enjoy this amazing holiday.

Accommodation
First and last night 4* hotel in Sarajevo. Three nights at Boracko lake private accommodation, one night at the mountain hut and one night at Lukomir village private accommodation.
Meals
Full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner) throughout the journey. On arrival day only dinner, and on the departure day only breakfast is included.
All Transfers
Sarajevo airport transfer on arrival/departure any time it fits you and all transfers during the tour. If you plan to arrive from Dubrovnik or Belgrade, let us know and we can arrange private transfer to Sarajevo.

Logistics

  • Most convenient arrival point is Sarajevo International Airport (SJJ). Also consider using Wizz Air as cheaper option and fly into Tuzla International Airport (TZL).
  • If you plan to arrive either from Dubrovnik / Split / Zagreb or Belgrade, please contact us for affordable private transfer or consider one of our connecting tours.
  • Your arrival on Day 1 can be anytime. We recommend being in Sarajevo before 8 PM so you can attend our welcome dinner.
  • Your departure on Day 8 can be anytime.

What’s Food Alike?
Bosnian food is unique mix of eastern and western cuisine which blended with local customs is creating probably the most diverse cuisine in the Balkans. Bosnian food included a lot of meat, but don’t worry we have you covered in case you prefer vegetarian options. We will focus a lot on traditional village/mountain food with great mix of tasty urban dishes as well. Tasting local specialties Ćevapi or Burek is must have. Roasted lamb and homemade pita (eng.pie) are out of this world delicacies.

  • DAY 1 (Arrival to Sarajevo)

Bosnian food is known for its healthy hearty meals.

Transfer from Sarajevo International Airport to your accommodation. Complimentary local Bosnian Dinner for first time meeting, briefing and chats included. If possible, please plan your arrival before dinner time (8 PM) or if you arrive earlier consider joining our Sarajevo Free Walking Tour or any additional tour of your choice.

  • DAY 2 (Blidinje Nature Park & Hiking to Vilinac Peak)

On this day we shall be enjoying an amazing hike at the pearl of Herzegovina region, Čvrsnica mountain. First part of the hike will take us around region of Blidnje Nature Park with ascent to Vilinac peak at 2112m. After enjoying time at Veliki Vilinac we shall conduct 25min descent to Mountain Hut Vilinac. At the hut we shall have lunch, free afternoon time followed with the dinner and overnight.

After delicious breakfast and beautiful sunrise, it is time leave our beautiful Vilinac hut and head towards the most amazing natural phenomenon on Čvrsnica mountain – famous Hajdučka vrata (eng. Outlaws Gates) located at the 2000 m asl. On the trail just before the Outlaws Gates, we shall pass by beautiful glacier lake, called Crljenjak.

This amazing natural phenomenon is great opportunity for amazing photography before we start our decent towards Diva Grabovica valley.

The trail to the valley is some 1750m beneath us, at all time offering us amazing views over the Neretva river canyon. By the time of arrival to Diva Grabovica valley, our transportation will already await us to transfer us to our overnight accommodation at Boracko lake.

The lunch is planned at the Jablanica where we will taste famous Bosnian roasted lamb, and dinner will be served at the accommodation.

  • DAY 4 (Prenj Mountain Hike to Zelena Glava – highest peak)

Being the most beautiful Bosnian and Herzegovinian, almost mythical mountain, Prenj is a must visit mountain for any true highlander. On this day we are doing the challenging hike to the most amazing peak of Prenj mountain – Zelena Glava at 2155m asl.

Since the first four days were a bit more demanding, it is time to have some relaxing time enjoying the amazing Neretva rafting. Amazing Neretva river canyon, it’s color, together with it’s tributary Rakitnica river will surely be highlight of your Bosnian holiday.

  • DAY 6 (Visočica Mountain, Rakitnica Canyon & Lukomir Village)

Hiking via the famous ridge of Visočica mountain, and visiting European most remote Rakitnica canyon. It is possible in summer months to take a swim in Rakitnica canyon so bear that in mind. Evning arrival to Lukomir, followed with dinner and overnight at one of Lukomir nomad houses.

  • DAY 7 (Lukomir Village & Bjelašnica Mountain)

In the early morning before the delicious, Lukomir nomad style breakfast, we shall learn how about the lifestyle of Lukomir nomads. If preferred it is possible to organize to milk the cow or sheep.

Later you will have free morning to explore the village on your own, and the midday is planned for Bosnian food workshop, where we shall learn how to make Bosnian specialty food – Burek (meat) or Potato/Cheese/Spinach pita (pie). 

After the great lunch, the afternoon is planned for return hike across the one of the highest peaks of Bjelasnica mountain, called Obalj at 1896m asl, towards the another amazing rural village at Bjelasnica mountain, village of Umoljani.

From the high mountain peaks, we shall see one of the most amazing valleys in whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Studeni Potok (eng. cold creek), learn the story about Umoljani dragon, see the famous Umoljani mosque, before we meet our driver and head towards Sarajevo.

Overnight in Sarajevo at 4* hotel. Goodbye dinner is planned at one of the local Sarajevo restaurants

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Is this activity for me?
    This trekking requires fairly good level of fitness. Most of the hikes are moderate to challenging, but are usually doable for anyone of normal level of fitness.
  2. Is Bosnia safe for trekking?
    Destinations covered in our 8 day trekking holiday are perfectly safe, especially from mines perspective. The regions we hike are have fully been preserved from 1990ies war activities. Safety of our guests and ourselves is our most important priority.
  3. Can I book solo?
    Yes you can. Significant number of our fellow travelers are solo.
  4. What is the weather like?
    During the months of April, May and October temperatures in the mountains can vary. Usually above 10 degrees Celsius, while for the rest of the months temperatures are higher, usually in 20ties.
  5. How much should I tip?
    Tips are not included in the tour costs, nor they are heavily expected in Bosnian culture. However for excellent service, we recommend tipping.
  6. How well are guides equipped and trained?
    Funky Tours mountain guides are fully trained English speaking individuals who know these mountain perfectly and are used to react properly in any give situation.
