Arrival Note:The tour is adapted to all ages and is medium demanding. Due to the distance to the location, we use vehicles during the tour to reach the starting hiking point, and the rest of the tour is on foot through breathtaking natural surroundings.
Morning:This tour will begin with a transfer from Sarajevo to Tjentište via Eastern Bosnia regions. As soon as we depart from Sarajevo, the ride will take us toward eastern, beautiful, and mountainous parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, towards regions of Foča and Tjentište. After roughly 2 hours ride, we shall arrive at Tjentište, our first entrance point to the National Park Sutjeska.
Tjentište is the famous WW2 Sutjeska Battle memorial, significant for the general story of Yugoslavia, which is undoubtedly an unmissable topic to anyone traveling to the Balkans and the topic we’ll be discussing a lot during this two-day program.
The last 45 min of the ride will take us up the gravel road (cca 17 km) through the heart of Sutjeska’s National Park untouched nature regions, where we will reach the start point of our hiking trail, a spot called Prijevor at 1668 m.a.s.l. From there, we shall have stunning views over the three mountains of Maglić, Zelengora, and Volujak.
On the way to Prijevor, we will stop at one of the fantastic viewpoints to observe the Skakavac waterfall at Perućica primeval forest (one of the last ones preserved in Europe).
Noon:At Prijevor, we shall leave our transportation and start a 2.30-hour medium hike, which will take us through breathtaking regions of the national park and its fantastic nature.
Trnovačko lake is nested underneath Maglić, Bosnian highest mountain peak bordering Bosnia and Montenegro. Trnovačko Lake is actually located in Montenegro but is only accessible as a hiking trail from the Bosnian side through Sutjeska National Park.
Lunch:Once at the lake, you will be given free time to explore the lake while your guides will take time to prepare lunch. During the hot summer months, the lake is perfect for swimming, too.
After the delicious lunch and free time on your own to explore the region, we shall start our hike back. Again, after some three hours, we shall arrive at Prijevor and then will take a ride back to Tjentište.
The last stop before return to Sarajevo would be the “Battle of Sutjeska” WW2 memorial at Tjentište. It commemorates the fighters and fallen soldiers of the Battle of the Sutjeska, which took place from May 15th to June 16th, 1943.
We shall learn some glorious WW2 stories and admire Tito’s partisan efforts to keep these regions of Yugoslavia and Bosnia free from Nazi-Ustase-Chetniks occupation.
Afternoon:The last ride of the day is a transfer from Tjentište to our amazing overnight rafting camp.
Evening hours are planned for some free relaxation time with local music and local dinner by the campfire, while over the drinks, you will meet up with the crew members and guests you will share your rafting boats with the following day.
Accommodation is planned in simple and clean (private or shared) bungalows with shared bathrooms, made on the very edge of river Tara banks.

Driving Time:3.00h
Morning:Morning hours are planned for delicious breakfast and amazing tranquil moments by the green Drina River. As soon as you get the full rafting equipment, we shall start our 45-minute ride through the canyon of River Tara to the starting point of the rafting.
The Tara River cuts the Tara River Canyon, the deepest canyon in Europe and the second deepest in the world after Grand Canyon, at 78 kilometers in length and 1,300 meters at its deepest. The canyon is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The following roughly 4/5 hours are planned for the most amazing white water rafting of your life.
Tara River ranges from III+ to IV on the difficulty scale, depending on the season. Naturally, spring (April and May) is the most adrenaline-pumped period, when water levels are at their highest points. As we approach summer and autumn, water levels drop, making Tara an ideal rafting destination for anyone, regardless of fitness level.
During the day, we shall make a few stops for cold drinks, will have some great fun on the clean, drinkable Tara River, will take down a few rocks for jumps, and overall, you will get to experience the best white water rafting can offer.
Lunch:In the afternoon, when rafting is finished at our rafting camp, we shall have a well-deserved local lunch and, after some free relaxing time, will go back to Sarajevo, where arrival is planned for later in the evening.
Evening:Transfer back to Sarajevo. However, this tour is the prefect way to connect Sarajevo with any other city in the region, including Podgorica in Montenegro, Dubrovnik in Croatia, or even Belgrade in Serbia.
For travelers of greater physical shape, we offer the tour extension and ascent to the highest peak of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Maglić, with an elevation of 2,386 meters (7,828 feet) above sea level.
The hike on Day 1 can be extended with a longer day of hiking by accessing Maglić peak.
