Funky Tours Team

>Our team will meet you at your address in and will make sure to provide the best possible travel experience you had so far while slowly introducing you into complex Balkan’s history and unrivalled nature beauty.

Podgorica

Our first stop, just after roughly an hour of drive, will be one of the two Montenegro’s capitals, the cocky Podgorica. You read well, Montenegro has two capitals but we will get you into that story as the journey goes along. One thing is for sure, if you were tired of the touristy Kotor and Budva bays, you will absolutely enjoy this vibrant but perfectly calm city.

It’s no secret that Podgorica is Montenegro’s most important economic, educational, cultural and political centre. However, not a lot of people know it is actually most valuable for its immense historical and architectural value. Add this to the fact it is nestled at the confluence of two stunning rivers-Moraca and Ribnica and you will get just a perfect stop over that will amaze you with surprises lurking over at each corner of the city.

Montenegro to/from Kosovo

>173 meters long Millenium bridge in Podgorica is a cable-stayed bridge which spans the river Moraca.

We will cross the famous cable-style Millennium Bridge which is one of the most recognised city’s modern landmarks. On the other hand, we will also have a chance to admire its complete opposite, the Ribnica bridge which was built by the Romans in the 5th century.

After the two completely different bridges, both of which connect the two strong sides of Podgorica’s history, we will head head to the old town. If you are already accustomed to the typical Balkan’s old towns, be prepared for a bit of a different perspective in Podgorica. A short walk through the old town will show us the picture of one of the most bombed cities in the history and, on the other hand, we will witness the remarkable multi-culturality at its best. Podgorica is a home to the three religious groups and is proud of each one of them.

History of this city will teach us about the never-ending turmoils from 400 years of Ottoman Empire, I and II World War, all the way to the era when this city became Tito’s city and was embraced by the typical Yugoslavian architecture.

Montenegro to/from Kosovo

> Church of the Holy Heart of Jesus is the only Catholic church in Podgorica and is considered to be one of the true masterpieces of Yugoslav Brutalist architecture.

Biogradska Gora

Just before the time for lunch, we will safely make it to one of the most beautiful places you can visit in Montenegro, Biogradska Gora National Park. Located at the Mountain Bjelasica, in the municipality of Kolasin, Biogradska Gora is nestled between the stunning rivers Tara and Lim.

For the next couple of hours we will wander through the stunning forest premises of this captivating national park which is under the UNESCO protection. Due to the fact is it a home to one of the very few European forests with over 400 years old trees, this park is the most treasured and guarded nature park of Montenegro. The story says that, ever since this place was declared as a National park back in 1952, not a single tree was cut.

Montenegro to/from Kosovo

> The forests of Biogradska Gora are a natural phenomenon offering a spectacular variety of micro climates, plants and animals.

We will take the 3.5kms long educational path, enjoy the smells and sounds of perfectly preserved nature inhabited by over 2000 different plants and around 1000 animal species. After a short hike, we will reach the Biogradsko Lake, one of the six glacier lakes of Biogradska Gora Park.

The short boat ride with an old wooden boat will absolutely mesmerise you and make you understand why this exact place was known as a favourite holiday destination of Sofia Loren, Harrison Ford and former Yugoslavian president Josip Broz Tito.

Just when you think there is nothing in this world to compete with the so far experience, keep in mind that this area is known for the freshly homemade local food that will make your taste buds feel as if in heaven. At the park, we will make sure to try some of Montenegro’s best specialities such as peasant soup, cicvara (cheesy polenta porridge) and kačamak (similar, with potato and cream).

Montenegro to/from Kosovo

> Biograd Lake is the largest mountain lake in Montenegro and is known for its almost magical clear surface reflecting the perfect merge of blue and green colours from the surrounding forests.

Kosovo

We will continue our drive and enjoy the spectacular sceneries before and after we enter Kosovo. Whether it is Pristina, Peja or any other place in Kosovo, our team will drop you off at your desired location in the evening hours.

Montenegro to/from Kosovo

> Prizren old town at night, one of the most remarkable Ottoman bazars guarded by Kalaja fort.

All that is funky–and then some.

As I researched possible tours of the Balkans, I wanted to avoid large groups travelling by coach. I also wanted an itinerary that would balance exploration of nature, culture, and history. Funky Tours looked especially promising.

After recently completing my tour, I am happy to say that Funky Tours far exceeded my high expectations.

Emir was our expert guide and driver, but he was also so much more. He shared his wide and deep knowledge of the region and its history, vivid anecdotes from personal experience, and a delightful sense of humor.

I admired his candor and thoughtfulness in addressing difficult, sometimes political questions, and marveled at his resourcefulness as a troubleshooter who nimbly addressed any and all issues throughout the trip.

Our itinerary was rich and fascinating, often taking us off the beaten track for immersion experiences that helped burst the tourist bubble. I should add that the tour struck a fine balance between comfort and physical activity. Hotel accommodations were excellent, the van was comfortable, and meals provided by the tour were tasty.

At the same time, I enjoyed our walking tours and light hiking in beautiful natural surroundings. Funky Tours also wisely combines structured days with plenty of free time for exploration. As much as I recommend Emir, I have no doubt that everyone at Funky Tours is a capable professional. Just keep in mind that whatever your associations with “funky”, mine are fun, informative, mind-expanding, and first rate.

Professional and individualised customer service

I worked with Ema from Funky Tours over the course of several weeks to plan a tailor-made family holiday to the Balkans.

We were uncertain as to the itinerary and Ema was very helpful with suggestions and very knowledgeable and flexible.

His communication was timely, he answered my myriad of questions and I always felt he cared about making our trip special.

Due to changing circumstances we were unable to go ahead with the booking, but I would feel very comfortable booking with Funky Tours based on the professionalism and customer service I received beforehand.

I took the “Montenegro to/from Kosovo Transfer Tour: Complimenting Dualism of Podgorica and UNESCO National Park Biogradska Gora” with Funky Tours. I was picked up from my hotel in Peje, Kosovo, and dropped off at my hotel in Budva, Montenegro. I booked this transfer because I wanted one that would take me to Biogradska Gora National Park and see the more remote areas, esp. in the mountains. And it did not disappoint. It actually went above & beyond my expectations. The drive from Kosovo to Biogradska is beautiful, and the walk around the lake was lovely.

But the best part was something I didn’t expect…a homemade traditional lunch at the Misko Puletiç rural household in a small village near the mountains with such magnificent views. This was an unexpected, delicious surprise & my favorite part of the trip. The Montenegrin host greeted me warmly, and though she didn’t speak English, we had great conversation, with the help of my amazing driver/guide/translator, Dusan. It was so hard to leave this place, esp. because after that huge meal, I wanted to take a nap under a tree, facing the mountains, with the breeze on my face. 🙂

Since this transfer tour is 11-12 hours long, I was worried I’d be bored & tired. Tired, yes, just because it was a long, eventful day. Boring…no! My driver & guide, Dusan, was fantastic… so very knowledgeable & humorous. The drive was never boring as we had such amazing conversations about all sorts of topic. 😊 This is definitely the best transfer tour I’ve taken during my 2-month long trip around the Balkans this summer!
