What’s the Best Way to Visit Hvar?

They say modesty is a virtue, mostly for those who aren’t experts in the field. 😉 We’re not here to be modest. We’re here to share our love and complete obsession with Hvar.

2026 is the first year we officially include Hvar in our sailing experiences. We’ve explored it front to back, up and down, inside out. Every hidden cove, every lavender field, every vineyard – we’ve seen it. We’ve tasted so much honey that the local bees probably formed a union just to keep up with us.

Hvar is Big, Really Big

Imagine this: 299.6 km² of island. That’s Hvar, the fourth largest in the Adriatic. Most visitors see Hvar only on a one-day trip or a short stay in Hvar Town.

The real question isn’t just whether you’ll visit Hvar. It’s what you’ll actually see. Will you explore Stari Grad, one of Europe’s oldest towns? Wander through lavender fields in full bloom? Taste a glass of Bogdanuša while a local tells you that winemaking here began in 384 BC?

One morning, we tried to capture a hidden cove for a photo. We posed, ran out of frame, argued over angles, and eventually just sat on the rocks with a bottle of wine, watching sunlight dance on the water. That is the real Hvar. A place to pause, feel, and be fully present.

Hvar Island in Croatia

History, Wine, and Stories in Every Corner

Hvar is the sunniest island in Europe, with over 2,700 hours of sunshine per year. The Stari Grad Plain, protected by UNESCO, still uses the ancient Greek land division system from 384 BC. Alongside Bogdanuša and Plavac Mali, exceptional Pošip and the rare Prč carry centuries of history in every sip.

We visited the Blue Cave near Biševo. Yes, it can get crowded in peak season. But with us, it is one highlight among many, not the day’s entire agenda. Swim in turquoise waters, relax in hidden coves, and let the peacefulness sink in.

Fun fact: Hvar has the first public theatre in Europe, built in 1612. We did try to sneak in a mini performance just for fun. The audience? Local cats and a few curious tourists.

Lavender Fields, Hidden Bays, and Local Life

  • Lavender Fields: Full bloom in July. The scent is so intense it makes you stop and inhale deeply. One time, we tried to get a perfect shot, but the wind kept blowing lavender into our faces. We laughed so hard, we forgot about the photos.
  • Pakleni Islands & Šćedro: Anchor in secluded bays. Swim, paddleboard, or just lie on deck. One afternoon, we tried to photograph the water. It was impossible. So we surrendered and simply enjoyed the view.
  • Donkey Farm: Meet the locals’ gentle companions. Feeding, petting, and joking around with these personalities will make your day. We always end up laughing until our cheeks hurt.
  • Stari Grad & Hvar Town: Cobblestone streets and ancient alleys. We got lost multiple times intentionally, discovering the tiniest cafés and secret squares.
  • Vineyards & Wine: Taste Bogdanuša, Plavac Mali, Pošip, and Prč while chatting with passionate locals. Once, a winemaker invited us to crush grapes with him. We ended up with purple toes and unforgettable stories.
  • Hidden Coves: Some are so secret you need a short hike or a boat. When you arrive, it feels like the island is sharing its own private treasure with you.

Sailing Highlights You Can’t Miss

  • Blue Cave & Stiniva Beach: Yes, you’ll visit them, but they won’t dominate your day. The day is about balance, not crowds.
  • Secluded Bays: Tufera Cove, Mostir Bay, Veli Porat. Swim, snorkel, or just enjoy silence.
  • Pakleni Islands: Hidden lagoons and pine-scented shores. Perfect for a sunset cocktail or a peaceful night under the stars.
  • Red Rocks (Crvene Stijene): Dramatic red cliffs above turquoise waters, ideal for photos and a swim.
  • Stari Grad Plain: UNESCO-protected, ancient Greek agricultural plots. Walk, explore, feel history.

Some bays are so photogenic that even after staging scenes, running in and out of frame, and pretending to model, we just sat down and let the view do its magic.

Why Sailing With Us Changes Everything

Visiting Hvar with us isn’t just sightseeing. It’s living the island. Swimming in hidden coves, tasting wines from passionate producers, wandering lavender fields, feeding donkeys, and simply sitting on deck, watching the sunset over the Adriatic. These are the moments that turn a trip into a memory.

Sailing with us is not just about moving from one point to another on a map. It is about living Hvar in a way most visitors never get the chance to. With us, you are not limited to the obvious highlights or the crowds. You do not just tick boxes, you experience the island’s rhythm, its hidden corners, and its heartbeat.

Imagine starting your morning with a swim in a secluded bay where the water is so clear you can see every fish darting around. Then cruising slowly along Hvar’s coast, stopping at coves so untouched that even our cameras struggle to capture their beauty. You pause not for a photo, but just to sit, breathe, and enjoy the view.

With our guidance, you will taste wines directly from passionate local producers, hear the stories behind Bogdanuša, Plavac Mali, Pošip, and the rare Prč, walk through lavender fields that perfume the air, explore cobbled streets of Stari Grad, and maybe even feed a donkey or two. Small, heartfelt moments make all the difference.

We have explored every hidden corner of Hvar and bring that knowledge, curiosity, and love for the island to you. You have freedom, but also the reassurance that you will not miss the small details that make Hvar unforgettable. Every sail, every stop, every pause is chosen to balance adventure, relaxation, and authentic connection with the island.
