Brief Itinerary

The itinerary is extremely well planned to be a relaxed, entertaining and a great quality holiday. All daily excursions are extremely close to the villa location, and none of the days includes more than 30-45 min of driving between villa and our points of interest.

Please note that the itinerary is extremely flexible and  is a subject to change or modification depending on your preferences.

  • Day 01: Arrival to Sarajevo

Airport pick up. Walking tour of Sarajevo and lunch. Transfer to villa and dinner.

  • Day 02: Meet Herzegovina in Depth

Visit to Blagaj and Pocitelj. Zip-line and lunch in Mostar. Dinner and live private concert at villa.

  • Day 03: Istup Waterfall Canyoning OR Hutovo Blato Photo Safari with Fruit Picking

Choose your own adventure. Barbecue dinner with locals at Bregava river in Stolac.

  • Day 04: Trebizat River Canoe Safari 

Canoe Safari and lunch at private beach bar. Herzegovina night out with live music.

Full Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival 

Pick up from the Sarajevo airport followed by the walking tour of the stunning old town area and tasting the best of local dishes in a cosy ambience of a traditional Sarajevo restaurant. After lunch we will head towards the region of Herzegovina and check into our Villa Paradise.

Evening time for delicious locally prepared dinner, meeting with your hosts and toast for an amazing trip that is about to follow. 

Alternatively pickups can be organised at the airports of Split, Dubrovnik, Zadar, Belgrade or any other location you might find more convenient.

Day 02: Discover the best of Herzegovina

Have you ever heard about Bosnian Uštipci and kajmak? Nothing in the world beats a strong Bosnian breakfast which will treat your palates as royalty while you are enjoying the view of Neretva river and amiable character of Herzegovinian morning sun.

After breakfast, we will head to explore the region of Herzegovina in depth with our first stop being in Ottoman village and medieval town of Počitelj. We will walk the old stone walls of Počitelj and beat the Herzegovinian all embracing sun in the shadows of the beautiful local garden over an icy pomegranate juice.

Our next stop will be the enchanting Blagaj. This is a place where we will encounter the absolutely captivating Buna river spring, one of the largest karst river springs in the entire Europe. Blagaj is also a home to Dervish House (Blagaj Tekke) where we shall enter a completely new level of serenity and learn about mysterious Sufi life.

Buna Dervishes
> Meet the local Buna Dervishes and attend the Sufi ceremony. Get to learn about local Sufi traditions and customs.

For the next hour we will outbid the Počitelj art and Blagaj serenity with some adrenaline rush and Mostar zip line, the longest zip line in the country. Those who prefer not to be involved can simply grab a drink and admire the city of Mostar from a 35m long skywalk platform.

Last stop for a day will be amazing Mostar where we will do a walking tour and learn about a myriad of historical events concluding with the poignant war history which made this city become like a man-made structure of yin & yang.

> Meet the Mostar local divers who start diving from the Old Bridge from an early age. By the time they are teenagers, they have already made dozens of prefect dives, and are masters of their craft.

We will have a lunch next to the UNESCO protected Old Bridge and give you some free time to soak up the atmosphere of the city on your own.

We will return to villa in afternoon and have some rest while getting a perfect setting for the evening. 
Mostar will be the main theme of the night and our villa will host a famous local bend performer straight from a Mostar Rock School.

Besides some amazing music we will be enjoying the local “meza” with a myriad of homegrown and produced Herzegovinian threats. Star of the night will be a rich Mostarsko beer with an abundance of different choices for those who are not big fans of beer. 

Day 03: The Best of Herzegovina Nature
  • Option 1: Canyoning to Istup Waterfall 

The most beautiful and the most hidden story of Herzegovina is the one and only Istup canyon. Easily and without any exaggeration we can call this place a paradise on earth.

After an easy morning accompanied with a tasty breakfast, we will head towards the town of Stolac. Nested on the beautiful Bregava river, a town with more than 30 national monuments and traces of life dating as long as 16.000 years in the past, Stolac region will be the highlight of your Herzegovina stay.

We will start our river tracing experience and discover the waterfall Istup with its hidden oasis of natural diversity. With countless small pools and waterfalls appearing and disappearing along the way, the experience of exploring the turquoise canyon of the Istup is probably one of your best life choices. Picnic lunch just below the waterfalls while overhearing the intact nature sounds is truly a once in a lifetime experience.

  • Option 2: Hutovo Blato Boat Safari & Herzegovina Fruit Picking 

If you are not into canyoning we can use this day to visit a captivating Nature park Hutovo Lake. Hutovo Lake is known to be one of the largest European nature and bird reserve and is an ideal asylum for thousands of animal and plant species. 

Tucked away in a secluded corner of Herzegovina, this home to hundreds of migratory birds is a place completely shielded from any impact of human kind.

 

We will enjoy short hikes through a carpets of wild flowers and dense forest at the nature park, and do a famous photo safari  while enjoying an explosion of stunning karst landscape, beautiful lakes, swamps and glades.

After a beautiful boat ride we will head towards the charming village setting of Stolac area and visit the local farmers. Tasty picnic lunch will be followed with a nice stroll in the vast spaces of fruit plantations and indulge into a sweet heaven of organically produced apples, strawberries, apricots, kiwis etc. 

On our way back we will make sure to stop at the ancient Daorson and make a toast to all of the lost civilizations while admiring the sunset over Herzegovinian karst.

No matter which of the two options you choose, good time is guaranteed and will be followed with some nice and easy walks and exploring the Stolac, a crossroad of civilizations.

Dinner will be arranged just next to a turquoise Bregava river with a typical local barbecue menu and hanging out with locals. Tonight we will have a chance to taste homemade Stolac rakija and wine from a local winery named after the ancient Daorson. 

After the dinner we will return to the villa and let you enjoy some free time over the drinks.

Day 4: Canoe Safari at Trebižat River

Today we will feel the adrenaline release while canoeing the Europe’s only underground river that sinks into the ground and emerges again exactly nine times. Guided by local experts we will quickly learn how to paddle and operate a canoe while encountering the exciting cascades, descending parts and slopes. 

We will take a few breaks to enjoy the absolutely incredible nature surroundings and swim in the crystal clear waters of Trebižat river.

Lunch break will be arranged at a cosy beach bar and restaurant which will provide top gastronomic pleasures. Nested in the heart of Trebižat river, you will be able to enjoy an absolute zen and privacy from comfortable booth or simply indulge into  sports activities such as beach volleyball or swimming.

We will return to villa to have some rest and, after a dinner, we shall continue with the evening by visiting one of the famous Herzegovinian night clubs well known to locals despite its hidden location. This is a place where we will hang out with locals and experience the best of BiH night life with live local music, DJ’s, and all of the best local drinks.

Day 05: Herzegovina Wine Route and Kravica Waterfalls 

Today we will take it nice and easy and, after breakfast, head to exploring the famous Herzegovinian wine route and tracing the authentic Herzegovinian wine flavors.

Authentic sorts of Žilavka and Blatina are only grown in the Herzegovina region, and being largely consumed locally, they are rare outside of the Balkans. More about Herzegovinian wines, read at Funky Tours Magazine.

Our hosts will be amazing wine producers and families Marijanović, Ostojić and Brkić with whom we will learn about the centuries old wine production.

In charming settings of opulently growing herbs and flowers and centuries old wine cellars, we will enjoy the finest of Žilavka and Blatina and bring some along to enjoy on our next stop, Kravice Waterfalls which will welcome us in less than 30 min of drive from Medjugorje.

Kravica is a truly remarkable cascade on the Trebižat River nested in a very heartland of Herzegovina karst and we will spend some time to enjoy the paradisiacal falls and swim in the crystal clear pool formed by these massive waterfalls trapped in lush greenery.

By the time you are back, dinner will be ready and this night’s star is a perfectly prepared lamb on spit, an inevitable part of Herzegovinian cuisine. Tonight our pool party will be level up with the sounds of traditional Balkan music brought to you by a local performer.

Day 06: Neretva White River Rafting and Sarajevo Pub night

After breakfast we will head towards Sarajevo and, on the way, explore the amazing Neretva midstream area with one of the best adventures you could possibly do while in the country – Neretva White River Rafting.

Once in Konjic, we will take a full equipment and head towards our starting point. Roughly 45min drive will take us through spectacular sceneries of Boracko Lake and upper flow of Neretva river. 

Once we start with rafting, the following four hours will bring us amazing slopes and rapids, turnarounds, canyons with clean and fresh drinkable water, absolutely intact nature and charming oasis of beaches where we will have some rest and enjoy the serene settings of the amazing flora and fauna diversity.

We will arrive at Sarajevo at roughly 6 PM which will give us plenty of time to prepare for the night out. Once we check you into your 4* centrally located hotel, we will arrange a locally prepared dinner and continue with the night by visiting some of the most popular Sarajevo pubs and let you enjoy until you decide to call off a night.

Day 07: Olympic Mt. Trebevic and Airport Transfer 

After breakfast we will pick you up and take on a unique cable car ride to Olympic Mt. Trebevic which is towering the whole city. We will enjoy the absolutely astounding views over the city, do some nice and easy walks and visit the old Olympic bobsled which will, most likely, be a highlight of your Sarajevo experience.

> Sarajevo Cable Car: “fly over the city”, have originally been open in 1959 and until 1992 operated as the most amazing attraction of Sarajevo. During the Siege of Sarajevo, the cable cars have been destroyed and finally reopened in 2018, and today offer the unique experience of understanding Sarajevo’s true nature.

Besides brining the glory to the city during the 1984 Olympics, Olympic mountain Trebević is also crucial for understanding the story of Sarajevo Siege which we will introduce you to without spoiling your holiday mood. 

After mountain Trebević, we will head towards the airport for your departure. After a week long holiday, when originally you arrived as a guest, and left as a friend, we are looking forward to see you again somewhere in the Balkans on one of Funky Tours special holiday trips.

2. What is the weather like in April to September?

> Herzegovina average annual temperatures. You probably did not knew, but Mostar and Herzegovina are on average one of the warmest regions of Europe.

3. How much should I tip?
Tips are not included in the tour costs, nor they are heavily expected in Bosnian culture. However when you receive excellent service, we recommend tipping.

4. Can I start/end this trip elsewhere in Croatia or Bosnia?
Yes, all of our tours and packages are customizable. If you arrival point is not Sarajevo (BIH) and you prefer to fly into Croatia, Serbia or Montenegro, let us know and we shall organize private transfer to your Herzegovina villa. 

5. What is the currency I should use while in Bosnia? 
While some places do accept EUR make sure to have small amount of local currency BAM.

6. How much in advance I need to book this tour?
It is recommended to book at least 3 months in advance as the villa is often sold long time in advance.
