Cvrsnica hiking trail

Either if you start this tour from Mostar or Sarajevo, the morning ride will take us via Jablanica town to Bilidnje Nature Park.

This 358m2 area of the high mountains of the central Dinarides, with mostly untouched nature, is home to several amazing mountain ranges and one of the most beautiful natural lakes in Bosnia and Herzegovina – Bilidnje lake.

Blidinje Lake with Cvrsnica Mountain and Bosnian medieval tombstones

Due to its geomorphological features, richness of flora and fauna, and beautiful and untouched nature, on March 24, 1995., this area was declared a nature park.

The first part of the hike will take us through beech and pine forest with steep ascent, and later, when we are above the treeline, amazing panorama views of the nearby mountains of Vran, Čvrsnica and Blidinje lake will be simply stunning.

The ascent will continue until we reach the peak of Mali Vilinac at 1980m above sea level. After the short break we will continue towards the Veliki Vilinac located at the height of 2118m above sea level. The amazing 360 panorama views will offer once in a lifetime experiences.

Once we start our descent, just 20 min later we shall make a main break at the Vilinac mountain hut. At Vilinac hut we shall prepare picnic lunch, refill our water supply and take a necessary rest, needed for the 2nd part of the day.

Nearby water supply for refill is available during the whole period of the year.

Mountain hut Vilinac at Cvrsnica mountain

Mountain hut Vilinac was originally built in 1938., and unfortunately destroyed several times, and finally reconstructed in 2010. This unique mountain hut is a great place for overnight stay at Čvrsnica mountain when you are planning a multi-day stay in the high gorges of this amazing mountain range.

After a well deserved break we continue our descent via hike to Hajdučka vrata (eng. Outlaws gates), as a must see destination for any nature lover.

Hajducka Vrata (eng. Outlaws gates) at Cvrsnica mountain

Located in the eastern part of the mountain Čvrsnica, they represent a natural phenomenon created for centuries. It is an extremely unique ring in the rock, created by the natural processes of erosion, and is located on the edge of the Diva Grabovica canyon.

Hajdučka vrata is located at 2000m above sea level, from where we can enjoy a truly beautiful, unique view of Diva Grabovica valley, the rock of Veliki Kuk, Čabulja, Velež and Prenj.

On the way to and back from Hajdučka Vrata, to the main trail, we shall pass by Crvenjak or Crljenak glacier lake, located at height of 1970m above sea level, making it the highest lake in Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the mid-late summer time, this lake is an amazing opportunity for chill refreshments.

After an amazing photo shoot at Hajdučka Vrata and time of our lives, we shall start the final part of our hike, descending towards Vitlenica. Our final part of the hike will take us through beautiful pine forest until we reach our final destination.

Last part of the day is return to Sarajevo or Mostar, depending what your starting point of the tour is.
