East Bosnia regions, bordering western Montenegro with its pearl of Sutjeska National Park, or as people call it “The Yosemite of the Balkans” are ideal destinations for any true nature lover, either seeking adrenaline or just easy and relaxed explorations.
Sutjeska National Park is the best of the untouched nature can offer. Just by saying it is home to a Bosnian highest mountain peak of Maglić (2386m), and heart-shaped glacier Trnovačko lake, with addition to European last rainforest of Perućica, and amazing canyon of river Tara, we believe it is more than enough to give this region at least day of your time – time fully enriched with stunning nature experiences which will last for a lifetime.
For those reasons we have developed full day itinerary which is great for anyone of medium to high fitness level, and delivers the best of Sutjeska National Park in one day.
Region of Sutjeska National Park is completely safe from any perspective of mines. Sarajevo Funky Tours will NEVER conduct trips to any areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina having ANY risk at all from perspective of mines.
Safety of our guests and ourselves, is our most important priority.
Departure Times Daily at 7 AM.
Pickup Locations If you are staying in the old town of Sarajevo meet us at our office. If you are bit away from us, please let us know and we can organise advance pickup.
Activity Note: The tour is adapted to all ages and is not physically demanding. Due to the distance of the locations, we use vehicles during the tour to get to the starting hiking point, but the rest of the tour is done on foot through beautiful wilderness of Sutjeska National Park.
Meet our team at the office or your preferred pickup location. This tour will begin with transfer from Sarajevo to Tjentište, via Eastern Bosnia regions. Your guide is knowledgeable adventurer who will introduce you to the story of the WWII and show you all of the beautiful natural surroundings of Sutjeska National Park that will definitely leave you breathless.
As soon as we depart from Sarajevo ride will take us toward eastern, beautiful and very mountainous parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, towards regions of Foča and Tjentište. After roughly 2 hours ride we shall arrive to Tjentište which is our first entrance point to the National Park Sutjeska.
Tjentište is famous WW2 Sutjeska Battle memorial, very meaningful for the general story of Yugoslavia, which is surely unmissable topic to anyone travelling Balkans, and the topic we’ll be discussing a lot during this two days program. The last 45 min of the ride will take us up the gravel road (cca 17 km) through the heart of Sutjeska’s National Park untouched nature regions, where we will reach start point of our hiking trail, spot called Prijevor at 1668 m.a.s.l. From there we shall have stunning views over the three mountains of Maglić, Zelengora and Volujak.
On the way to Prijevor, we will make short stop at one of the amazing viewpoints to observe Skakavac waterfall at Perućica primeval forrest (one of the last ones preserved in Europe).
At Prijevor, we shall leave our transportation and start 2.30 hour medium hike, which will take us through very beautiful regions of the national park and its amazing nature, where finally around lunch time.
Trnovačko lake is nested underneath the mountain Maglić which is Bosnian highest mountain peak, bordering Bosnia and Montenegro. Trnovačko lake is actually located in Montenegro, but is only accessible as a hiking trail from Bosnian side, through Sutjeska National Park.
Once at the lake, you will be given free time to explore the lake, while your guides will take time to prepare lunch. During the hot summer months lake is perfect for swimming too.
After the delicious lunch and free time on your own to explore the region, we shall start our hike back. Again after some three hours we shall arrive to Prijevor, and then will take ride back to Tjentište.
The last stop before return to Sarajevo would be “Battle of Sutjeska” WW2 memorial at Tjentište. It commemorates the fighters and fallen soldiers of the Battle of the Sutjeska, which took place from May 15th to June 16th, 1943.
We shall learn some glorious WW2 stories and admire to Tito’s partisans efforts to keep these regions of Yugoslavia and Bosnia free from Nazi-Ustase-Chetniks occupation.
Return to Sarajevo should be around 8.30 pm.
What Do I Need to Bring?
The guides were organized, knowledgeable, and friendly. Was a great way to meet new people and get out of the city.
The best was taking a swim in Trnovačko Lake after a beautiful but hot hike, the water was clear and it was a great way to relax in Sutjeska National Park.

Hiking in Paradise
I have done a tour that is not listed here – the Sutjeska National park hike that I have been dying to do ever since I visited Sarajevo for the 1st time.
I had done some other tours with Funk Tours and knew it was going to be amazing. The hike was led by a knowledgeable and friendly guide, Tarik, with whom we explored diverse trails that showcased breathtaking landscapes at every turn.
From majestic mountains and lush forests, every scenic view imprinted an everlasting mark in my memory. We made it all the way to a jaw-dropping Trnovacko lake and had lunch in those serene, heavenly surroundings.
I wholeheartedly recommend this tour for an awe-inspiring adventure in nature’s embrace. Sharing some snippets from the hike but trust me, they do not convey even 50% of what it’s like in reality!
Ground tour for sarajevo
Thank you Ema and the gang at sarajevo funky tours for taking care of us during our 6-day stay in sarajevo.

This is a great team!
We interacted with several people in the Funky Tours team, and they were all great. The office staff responded quickly and were very helpful, and the tour guides were also helpful and informative. I would go with them again any time!
